Detective Conan: The Music



It's always a plus when a great series has great music to match. ^_^ Music, songs especially,
for Detective Conan are mostly a pleasure to hear and add another level of enjoyment.

To date there are 58 opening themes (OP) and 70 ending themes (ED), 5 original soundtracks
(background music = BGM only) and 27 movie soundtracks (nearly all BGM). There are some other
CDs: a BGM Best Selection (1997), a Song Collection (9 tracks, 1997), "The Best of Detective Conan"
(16 songs from TV & films) (cover pic above) and a couple other odd ones I'm not sure about.

December 2003 saw the release of Super Best #2 (collection of BGM tracks) and the second theme song (OP&ED)
collection CD. The first pressing of this CD came with a DVD which will have the textless versions of the OP&ED
songs that are on CD. Dec 13, 2006 is release for a Movie Themes CD... I'd rather have a Vol 3 of the OP and ED songs
CD instead. Vol 3 finally came out Aug 6, 2008. Best of Detective Conan is up to Vol 6 now (Mar 25, 2020 out).


The OP & ED songs almost always come out as CD singles.

I'm not sure how the connections exactly work between production studios & music companies,
but there's definitely a pairing up. Not always the case in the early years, but later on, all the OP&
ED for TV are done by artists under the GIZA Studio label. Just like will only find AVEX artists
doing shows backed/made by AVEX MODE (Inu Yasha, Hikaru no Go eg). No doubt why we'll
never hear Megumi Hayashibara (aka Haibara Ai) doing a song for Conan (she almost always does
songs for shows she's in) since all her music came out (pre May 2019) by King Records.

NOTE: Meitantei Conan TV and movies I'm only covering. Ergo, I'm not including the songs/music for the released in 2022
spin-off anime series Zero's Tea Time and Hannin no Hanzawa-san (The Culprit Hanzawa).

Re-make of the 3rd OP, Nazo, Imy FAVOURITE Conan song. The re-make has a nice sequence, the music is similar, but the singing is inferior.

May 14, 2016: OP43 by B'z for the anime is the theme song for the 20th movie. The OP sequence is reflective of the movie and is STUNNING to watch!

Jan 5, 2019: 2 hr special (Ep 927-928) has a theme song by Kurai Mai: "Kimi to Koi no Mama de Owarenai Itsumo Yume no Mama Jairarenai"
